All by myself...

You know you've made the transition to the single lifestyle when your evening is as follows:

- You complete your weekly grocery shop at the petrol station; milo, milk and dog food
- Washing the dishes consists of three coffee cups and emptying the bin of take away and frozen food boxes
- You get to watch several old episodes of Gilmore Girls, Charmed and finish up with the latest Americas Next Top Model.... and no one has a problem with this
- You can wholeheartedly hug the heater and the only one complaining is your shivering dogs
- You have had more conversations with people on facebook and msn than you have had with real people in person

Hmmmmm..... there's a silver lining to every cloud!!

Then I saw your face, now I'm a believer...

Uh oh.... I think i am becoming a face book addict already!!

I can't believe the people you end up finding on there!! It's crazy!! (although as Fleur quite rightly pointed out today - there is only 30 people in Adleaide so its not really suprising we all know each other!!)

For those of you who still have no idea what I'm talking about check it out: http://www.facebook.com/

I still think its ridiculous that you get an email in your email telling you that someone has sent you an email, and when you read it this really all could have been avoided by emailing the person in the first place - but hey... gotta keep with the times!!

Anyways - had a pretty funny week! Had one of my ridiculous laughing fits in an inappropriate place (middle of a tax training session!!) and thanks to being sat between two other highly bored/tired/wigged out giggling gerties...managed to completely loose control of all ability to stop laughing (of course this all had to be done silently) resulting in me shaking and having tears pouring down my face.... which only managed to make the other two laugh more, and just when i'd get it under control, a smirk from one of those two was enough to set me off again (Adelaide chickies - think Moulin Rouge!!). The remaining 45 minutes of training was the longest of my life!!

This was followed by security interupting the partners round table meeting (the MOST important meeting of the year, for those non accountant types out there - where all our promotions and pay rises get decided!!) to tell them that my car was parked inappropriately in our car park and could they please find me and get me to move it asap!! Ooooops!!! Met a security guard straight out of an Adam Sandler movie, who cornered me in the lift (literally put his body on the line and forced the doors to stay open - which repeatedly tried to squish him... oh how i wish they had!!) Thankfully the emergency alarm went off in the lift from him holding the doors open too long while he berrated me for my innappropriate parking, and the doors finally over powered him... I resisted the temptation to wave as the doors finally closed him out of sight!! As if it wasn't enough he grabbed me again on my way out to repeat his tirade.... ok ok i get it....don't park in the loading zone!!!

Sunday, I went with little cousin Callum to see Shrek 3!! As if the movie wasn't funny enough, after arguing with him in the car the whole way to the movies bout wether Puss in Boots would be in Shrek 3 - he was amazed to find I was right.... and then insisted to yell for Puss in boots whenever he wasn't on the screen. We did have several slight reprieves from this...when watching the very quiet and intimate moment as Shrek and Arthur are discussing the deep and troubled problems in their life, in his biggest most urgent voice... "Bev, BEV.... Have to get FIREMAN SAM!!!!!" Yes... that campfire was looking a little dangerous... sadly Fireman Sam was no where to be found. He also spotted the fire escape and made a run for it and after all the excitement decided to pretend to sleep - pretend snoring and all!! All in all - highly entertaining!! (and at least he wasn't actually falling asleep and snoring for real!! Wink wink to the ESV crew!!)

The first time, ever I saw your face...

OKAY OKAY OKAY!!

I'm on facebook!! Please tell me that will stop me getting emails bugging me about it now!!

Now it's raining more than ever...

As if it's not bad enough that i hate that song!!

This was yesterday.....

Today was not much better! (****You may note that the use of today and yesterday are now wrong - yes, for those keen blogger readers amongst you - you will note that I origionally posted this blog on Sunday, unfortunately I started stuffing around with the HTML which put my profile at the bottom of the page and i couldn't fix it!! Annoying - so I had to delete and repost this entry!! For those who had not seen it yet - reda on!!! For those who had left comments - i apologise - please feel free to leave them again!!!!!!!******)

And so I say.... I HATE RAIN!!
... I hate getting rained on
... I hate driving in the rain
...I hate how the rain makes my car look clean, only to splash it in mud
... I hate how it makes my shoes slippery and i fall over
... I hate how it makes my car skid on grass
... I hate how its washed the driveway away at the farm
...I hate being ankle deep in mud
... I hate how it rains hardest when you are furthest from shelter
...I hate having wet shoes
... I hate having wet socks inside my wet shoes
... I hate how the rain smooshes up the cow poo, so you can't tell if you're stepping in mud or poo anymore
... I hate how you realise the mud is just smooshed up cow poo anyway

AND DON'T even THINK about telling me "we need it!!!"

In happier news...

You may remember Tinker ("If ifs and ands were pots and pans...", 2 February), well she got adopted pretty much straight away after that blog.

Unfortunately, she was adopted by a couple and the man passed away not long after and she ended up back with us!!!

So for the last month or so she has been hanging with the Bo's!! But today was a happy day for her as she finally found her new home!! She left, with one last pic...

And a friendly reminder if you know of anyone looking for a new pup - check out the paws website - link on side!! (**yay - it's back on the side now!!**)

Water water everywhere...

...But not a drop to drink.

As the storms start up again, and I sit here fingers and toes crossed that we won't be hit again as badly as last time, I have to post this article from the Sydney Morning Herald earlier this week:

For all the damage, little rain for dam

THE STORMS that unleashed torrential rain on the Hunter Valley, the Central Coast and Sydney might have done billions of dollars worth of damage and may turn out to be the state's worst natural disaster, but their value to the Sydney catchment was negligible.
Dam levels are unlikely to rise significantly, despite up to 200 millimetres of rain falling on parts of Sydney and the Central Coast since Thursday. In a familiar refrain, the Sydney Catchment Authority said too little of it had fallen over the catchment area.
A spokeswoman for the authority, Alison White, said: "We're getting some increased inflows into the dams at the moment but it won't be a big increase.
"We've had some good rainfall in the more coastal catchments, but this coastal front didn't penetrate very far inland. We need consistent rain over every square kilometre of the catchment to really make a difference."

So.... is it just me!?!?!? Or are the stupid catchment areas in the wrong place??????

ANNOYING!!!!!!

This ain't a scene...

These pics were taken on Monday, so effectively 48 hours after the flooding had passed!

As you'll see - there's still plenty of water about!!

This is a section of the post and rail fence that ended up washed up across the driveway...

The build up of washed up crud in the corners of each of the paddocks, all sorts of items could be found in these, including bottles, jump poles... ohh yeah and the odd wheelie bin!!

This telegraph pole (which i had once tried to move and failed miserably due to its heaviness) was washed all the way up from the very bottom corner of the property and ended up in Chino's paddock!!
The fence in Chino's paddock, covered in grass where it was completely underwater. We found Chino two paddocks over, don't really know how he got there, but now he is stuck there, since the gate is stuck at one end and still under water at the other!! At least he got out of this one...

This entire area was under water...

This is the corner of one of the paddocks, as you can see by the grass it too went under, I stood next to it to get an idea of how deep the water would have been, and this is up to my head. Note, there is still water running into the paddocks on the other side of the fence.

This used to be a paddock!! It's now a lake and a new family of ducks has called it home. There's a massive ditch in there and that water would be well and truly over you're head, goodness knows whats washed up in there that we'll find if the water ever goes down, you can see the odd pole sticking out here and there!!

This paddock used to be two paddocks, the entire fence down the middle has been washed away. We are pretty sure this is where Clover managed to escape, knocking out this bit of fence, and how she managed to get herself into such a state. We think Thunder probably followed her out and was grateful for her escape route!

The end of Chino's new paddock...still under water, note the water bin stuck in fence, hee hee!

Whats left of the driveway after all the bitumen washed away...

If you look at this picture and look for the point where the grass stops in the distance, on the left hand side at the bottom of the hill, that's where these jump poles started, they washed all the way through all the paddocks and ended up here...

Finally, this is the paddock where Blaze & Jed (& Clover - post her escape!!) weathered out the storm, again by the grass you can see that this entire paddock was under water, all the way up the hill to the top fence where it then rushed across the flat and down the driveway. The poor things would have been stood in water, but thankfully if they went right up the top, it wasn't more than about a foot high.

Raindrops keep falling on my head...

Surprsingly, I'm feeling pretty lucky right now!! (Tired - but lucky!!) This has certainly been a long weekend!!

Friday arvo I started my usual trek up the freeway to feed the horses, only to remeber that it was a long weekend (its easy to forget these things when you only work three days - hee hee!!).

So after crawling along at 2kms an hour for the first bit of the freeway I decided to take the not quite so secret other passage and head up the Pacific Highway. The further I got the darker and stormier it became, eventually encouraging me enough to get off the windy back roads and head back onto the freeway. So i went back to the crawling traffic. Turns out that was a really good move, since this is what happened to the highway a little further along the way....

Crazy - huh?!?!?!?

Anyway - unknowing of such drama that was unfolding I kept on crawling up the freeway - watching it get darker and dreading more and more having to feed the horses in the dark and the rain!! Oh the joys of horses in winter!!

Finally I reached the turn off and started to head down Ourimbah Creek Road, as I started down the road a car came in the opposite direction, slowed down and told me the road was covered in water and you couldn't get through. Having already driven through a couple of pretty heavey patches of water I wasn't deterred - I had to get down to the ponies after all... So kept on going!!

A bit further down there was a couple of fire trucks that had just finished patching up a section of road, the firies informed me they hadn't been any further down the road but to give it a go... Yay!!

So I kept on going, but even I was out of my depth.... the poor little Corolla looked at the lake ahead and said "NO WAY", after watching a boy go wading into it and ending up in it up to his waist I begrudgingly turned around and admitted defeat for the night!!

I started heading home, met up with Renee and the reports started rolling in - the worst we heard of was a nearby property being 4 metres under water. I started fraeking out - we didn't know what state the horses would be in or how deep in water their paddocks would be. I continued home to shut the dogs in and pack up the car and headed back up the freeway. I landed myself at my Uncle's house (10 minutes from the horses) and tried to get some sleep, knowing that first thing in the morning we would have to try and get out there.

With no electricity up the coast - the one shop that did was doing booming business with takeaway coffee the next morning and I grabbed a few before heading back to Ourimbah Creek Road, where I met up with Renee and Ben in their 4wd... we started down the road to have a look.

Now I don't have any pics of what we saw, but here are some pics of nearby areas that are as close to what we saw as I can find...

Looking out at where I am used to seeing paddocks and horses - there was nothing but water. It was one of the strangest things I've ever seen. There was no way of getting through - and with heavey hearts we turned around. Thankfully we bumped into as SES dude, who brought some well awaited news - they had been down the road the day before and opened the gates on any animals they thought were in danger. Our only real hope was that they had let our horses out. For the next 24 hours we hung on to this tiny piece of information, and made a couple more trips out to see if the water had come down. After finally realising we were never going to get out there that day I finally headed home to try and find some sleep. After all... it wasn't like we could go and get any dinner up the coast....

I left home at 5.45 am the next morning (after minimal sleep), I was determined to be at the top of the road at first light to try again. And to my relief, and the Corolla's trepidation, we made it through one big puddle and a muddy landslide before I finally had to leave my trusty car behind. A tree had brought power lines down across the road, but having got this far I couldn't turn back (besides, I wasn't sure the Corolla would make it through the mudslide again!!) so I climbed over the tree and walked the last of the way.

I could never have believed the damage at the farm, pretty much all of the paddocks would have been under water to some extent - some of them would have been completely immersed. To my greatest happiness I counted all the horses, and although they were all cold and hungry they were ok!! One of Renees horses, Clover (see blog below "Love is in the air...") has cut her legs up pretty bad, but all things considered it is amazing that they all survived.

As I said at the start - despite it all - I feel lucky - have never been happier to see those crazy ponies!! Big hugs to them all!!

Let him know that you know best...

So why did the echidna cross the road?

I pondered this as I brought my car to a halt and watched him leisurely wander across the road.

As I went to take my foot off the brake and head off on my way, it suddenly occurred to me... perhaps he didn't have a reason....

I quickly slammed my foot back down on the brake and set the hazard lights in motion. Just as I had guessed Mr Prickly had decided that he didn't know why he'd bothered to cross the road at all since there was no Mrs Prickly or food on the other side of the road, and lets face it, what else do echidnas have in their daily routine? So he'd started his random strolling back across the road again.

On several occassions I have been faced with tutrles suffering the same soul searching on the roads, and normally stop the car, pick them up and plonk them safely back in the shrubs on the side of the road. As i bent over to pick up Mr Spikey Pants I decided that this approach was not going to be very adaptable to the situation... Turtles can be a bit slimy, but the echidna had a whole new defence system and he thought he might just show me how sharp he was.

Determined to outwit the little bugger (even if it was for his own good) I proceeded to stand behind him and stomp my feet to encourage him to conitnue back to the safety of the sidelines. Obviously this was the point where the school bus rumbles down the road with twenty school kids wondering what the crazy lady was doing stomping and jumping all over the road!! Eventually Spikey Mikey decided he too should be well advised to get as far away from the crazy lady as possible and finally made it to the sidewalk, where he kindly posed for a photo and expressed his confusion as to what all the fuss had been about!!

Live your life till love is found....

Have had stacks of fun this weekend!!

Started off at the train station...

Doesn't sound too exciting i know, but when the train pulled up...

Ohhh yeah... SO FUN....

And just to prove I did actually go for a ride....

Twas thankful we didn't go through the tunnel though!!

It is such a cool little park run by all these old little train fanatic men... SO CUTE!!

My partners in crime for the trip...

And must say this was my favouorite series of events...

"Watch this..."

"Tum di dum.."

"What's going on..."

"Bahahahah.... I have you by the leg!!"

"Now what shall I do??"

Fair to say - fun was had by all!! Headed back down the freeway (after a quick stop off to say hi to the ponies!!) and rushed home to start getting ready for the soccer.

Yes - that's right - the soccer... yes you are on the right blog!! Ages ago I decided to be a really nice girlfriend and buy tickets for me and Rob to go see Australia v Uraguay... Sadly for Rob... he's still not home!!!! Well as they say... a friend in need is a friend indeed.... Ange filled the spot!! So we trooped off in the FREEZING cold last night to watch the game!!

Twas great fun, and although i know nothing about soccer, I did learn that Uraguay is in South America!! (and even managed to conclude that Paraguay must be also... i mean - they rhyme so they must be nearby right!?!?!) Anyways - I was most excited by the flares and the giving of a card, booing the guy who hurt himself just by running (SOFT!!) and even if we lost, it was so worth going...especially for the coverband at the bar after, the dancing skippy and once again being subjected to a cover rendition of "Shot through the heart..."

We don't need no education....

Ok - I know I'm not you're typical dumb blonde, but just recently I have to admit to being a little suprised!! Twice recently, it has been brought to my attention, that things i thought were pretty much common knowledge... were not so common!!

Firstly - I attended some training for work... coaching and mentoring. After rocking up 10 min late (the free coffee line was a killer!!) and stealing someone's seat (co-incidentally the guy who had been behind me in the coffee line who'd had the brains to get a seat first!!) I was amazed to discover the captivation of the audience. They were sitting there stunned to hear that staff "these days" want to feel like their employers actually care about them. How amazing this "younger generation" (ie me!!) are - how carefully we need to treat them, and i quote... "they can use google".They were shocked to hear that we "expect things" and if we don't get them we will "go elsewhere". I'm sorry - I didn't realise caring about your staff and being competitive in the market place (this is the accounting industry after all!!) were such "new and exciting" concepts... Gee.... I must have found that out on google!!

Anyways - i thought this was a bit of a one off!! BUT - then I watched "an inconvenient truth". Al Gore presents some pretty convincing stats on climate change and global warming. I'm not saying I knew all the stats or even realised quite how much global warming had increased in the last few years - nor had i really thought about global warming leading to flooding (which is quite logical when you think about all the ice melting!!). But it all seemed pretty logical to me. What did freak me out was that apparently this is news to some people (ie quite a lot of people!!) especially the news reports saying "Global warming could be the biggest hoax ever" are these people for real!?!?!? I think the biggest shock is how on earth did George Bush beat Al Gore!?!?
In the film you can feel Al Gore's frustration, it kinda seems like he is bashing his head on a brick wall trying to explain what I thought was a pretty well understood concept!! Meanswhile Bush sits around with these little rippers:

"Information is moving -- you know, nightly news is one way, of course, but it's also moving through the blogosphere and through the Internets." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., May 2, 2007

"And so, what Gen. Petraeus is saying, some early signs, still dangerous, but give me -- give my chance a plan to work." --George W. Bush, in an interview with Charlie Rose, April 24, 2007

"There are jobs Americans aren't doing. ... If you've got a chicken factory, a chicken-plucking factory, or whatever you call them, you know what I'm talking about." --George W. Bush. Tipp City, Ohio, April 19, 2007

"There are some similarities, of course (between Iraq and Vietnam). Death is terrible." --George W. Bush, Tipp City, Ohio, April 19, 2007

"The solution to Iraq -- an Iraq that can govern itself, sustain itself and defend itself -- is more than a military mission. Precisely the reason why I sent more troops into Baghdad." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., April 3, 2007

I could go on.....

Anyways - rather than bagging Bush, which coincidentally doesn't actually help climate change.... I suggest you check out the website (added at side!!) My new plan to help is to unplug my hair dryer, and check my tyres tomorrow... hey little things help!!
